蒔絵師としては20歳頃に独立しますが、是真の名前を有名にしたのは34歳の時。

その後も漆芸家・絵師として名を轟かせた是真は海外でも人気が高まり、1873年のウィーン万国博覧会、1876年のフィラデルフィア万国博覧会でも賞牌を受けています。

そして死後100年以上経った現在、明治期の超絶技巧を代表する職人として再び柴田是真に注目が集まっています。

As a lacquer artist, he became independent around the age of 20, but he made his name famous when he was 34.

After that, Zeshin, who made a name for himself as a lacquer artist and painter, became popular overseas, and he received awards at the Vienna World's Fair in 1873 and the Philadelphia World's Fair in 1876.

And now, more than 100 years after his death, Shibata Zeshin is once again attracting attention as a craftsman representing the transcendental technique of the Meiji era.
