Yatate is a stationery used in Japan since the Kamakura period.
Designed as a combination of an inkwell and a brush case, it was made for easy writing on the battlefield, while traveling, and while peddling.
The brass part is made of silver and brass, and the entire surface of the brass part is engraved with a chrysanthemum pattern by a craftsman one by one.
The silver part is designed to resemble the pattern of a Japanese katana.
It is a wonderful work of art created by the best of the craftsmen's engraving techniques of the time.


矢立とは鎌倉時代から日本で用いられた文具であり、インク壺と筆入れが一緒になったデザインをしています。
戦場や旅先、行商中でも簡単に筆記が行うことができるように作られており、現代でも国会などの署名の際に使われているとのことです。
この作品は、銀と真鍮で作られており、真鍮部分は全面に菊の模様が一つ一つ職人によって彫られております。
一方、銀の部分はあえて彫金せず、刀の柄に使われる梅花皮のようなデザインです。
どちらも当時の職人の彫金技術の粋を結集して作られており、名品と言って差し支えない作品です。
