日本の鋳物師で、1977年に梵鐘の分野で重要無形文化財保持者（人間国宝）に認定された。仏像などの文化財の修理や保護に携わってきた。1949年（昭和24年）より梵鐘の製作を開始し、比叡山延暦寺、成田山新勝寺、広島平和の鐘（1967年）などを手掛ける。1953年 芸術院賞受賞。1954年 日本伝統工芸展が開催され、第3回展から審査員に就任。1981年 100個の梵鐘を制作し『百六の鐘』を出版、1987年 日本芸術院会員に推挙され、妙法院（三十三間堂）の梵鐘を制作する。

Japanese metal-casting craftsman, recognised as a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property ('living national treasure') in the field of Buddhist bells in 1977. He has been involved in the repair and protection of cultural properties such as Buddhist statues, etc. He began making Buddhist bells in 1949 (Showa 24) and has worked on the bells of Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei, Shinshoji Temple on Mount Narita and the Hiroshima Peace Bell (1967). 1953 Art Academy Prize. 1954 Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition was opened and he was appointed a member of the jury from the 3rd exhibition. In 1981, he produced 100 temple bells and published Hyakuroku no Kane (The Bells of Hyakuroku); in 1987, he was nominated as a member of the Japan Art Academy and produced the temple bells for Myohoin (Sanjusangendo).
